Beginnings

The Youth Services Site

The seeds of For the Love of Learning were first planted back in February 2006 when Robin Grant, as a full-time community volunteer was welcomed warmly by the staff and youth at Choices for Youth (CFY).

Buoyed by the friendliness and encouragement of the youth and staff on site and the willingness of all parties to help the project through their resources, including their expertise and facilities, the volunteer would realize a vision for the youth and watch the youth at the site help shape it into reality.

Following the youth's success of the launch of "Voices for Youth," the creative writing and art zine by youth, Robin coordinated additional workshops for the youths.

Community Youth Network

With the support of Choices for Youth and the guidance of the Community Youth Network (CYN), Robin applied for a Special Projects Grant in September 2006 through the Community Youth Network to implement For the Love of Learning. In October she received the maximum grant and began the Art Workshop. Since then the Community Youth Network has helped facilitate the delivery of SWASP or CEIIS vouchers to youth workshop participants, or stipends towards a small salary and post-secondary tuition vouchers.

CYN has been instrumental to the success of the For the Love of Learning project, with respect to its inception and the encouragement of its continued success through financial sustainability and in kind support.
